All safety capacitors are approved according to IEC 60384-14.4, UL, and CQC, while all series are compliant with RoHS and the REACH regulations.
KEMET’s safety certified film capacitors are specifically designed for conducted emissions attenuation in AC line filtering applications. The self healing capability of film capacitors makes them a great choice for safety across power lines as well as having internationally recognized safety certifications.
These safety capacitors are also known by other names, including EMI/RFI suppression capacitors and AC line filter safety capacitors. Safety capacitors are also called EMI / RFI suppression capacitors, AC line filter safety capacitors, or X- and Y-rated capacitors. X and Y capacitors not only keep radio frequency noise generated by the device local to that device, but also protect the device from mains noise and high voltage surges.

These capacitors are well-suited for applications that require keeping potentially disruptive or damaging line transients and EMI out of susceptible equipment.
To be clear, you should select your Class-X and Class-Y capacitors according to your design's purpose and requirements. Whereas X2 and Y2 caps are appropriate for household applications, X1 and Y1 safety capacitors are used in industrial settings.
