In these applications, solar collectors and thermal energy storage systems are the two core components. This paper focuses on the latest developments and advances in solar thermal applications, providing a review of solar collectors and thermal energy storage systems.
A photovoltaic thermal collector (PVTC) is a device that simultaneously transforms solar radiation into electrical and thermal energy (Fig. 2). The PVTC can be described in basic form as the open solar collector integrated with a flat surface and mounted with a PV module (Yazdanifard and Ameri, 2018).
Hybrid PV/T solar collectors can be considered either as PV modules combined with a cooling component that can deliver a useful thermal output (hot water or air), or as thermal collectors with PV cells incorporated into the design in order to generate additional electricity.
