In addition, considering its medium cyclability requirement, the most recomended technologies would be the ones based on flow and Lithium-Ion batteries. The way to interconnect energy storage within the large scale photovoltaic power plant is an important feature that can affect the price of the overall system.
The modeled $/kWh costs for 600-kW Li-ion energy storage systems vary from $469/kWh (4-hour duration) to $2,167/kWh (0.5-hour duration). The battery cost accounts for 41% of total system cost in the 4-hour system, but only 11% in the 0.5-hour system.
PV systems are quoted in direct current (DC) terms; inverter prices are converted by DC-to-alternating current (AC) ratios; storage systems are quoted in terms of kilowatt-hours or megawatt-hours (kWh or MWh) of storage or the number of hours of storage at peak capacity.
