If a battery is subject to more than one regulation in the EU, one declaration can be provided to cover all applicable regulations. The regulation places certain restrictions on the amount of mercury, cadmium, and lead used in batteries.
All parts are not applicable for all batteries. Instead, the regulation defines five battery categories depending on how the battery is used. Some requirements are only applicable for some battery categories. Requirements associated with a new CE conformity assessment of batteries are introduced in the Regulation.
Stationary battery energy storage systems are also covered under the new regulation, including assessments and testing to demonstrate safety of the stationary system and mitigation for possible hazards.
The new Regulation on batteries establish sustainability and safety requirements that batteries should comply with before being placed on the market. These rules are applicable to all batteries entering the EU market, independently of their origin.
