Our study introduces a novel composite insulation film engineered to function as a thermal barrier in lithium-ion batteries. While SnSe has been extensively researched as a conventional thermoelectric material [30, 31], its integration into a composite for insulation purposes remains largely unexplored.
To research the performance of modified PET films at elevated temperature, the breakdown performance and energy storage performance of PET/BNNS-2.67 vol% at room temperature, 80, 100, and 120 °C are tested and the comparison with PI, PEI, PP, PET is illustrated in Table S2 and Fig. 4, concretely.
At 400 MV/m, the energy loss of coated PI films is 0.55 J/cc which is only 4.3% of uncoated PI films and 18.5% of PEI films. The substantial suppression of energy loss further gives rise to the excellent charge-discharge efficiency of coated PI films, as demonstrated in Fig. 4 (d).
By probing the energetic modes of transport and aging at pre-breakdown field, it is shown for the first time that the high-heat polymers like polyimides with high aromaticity suffer fast aging induced by non-thermalized electrons even at moderate fields due to their intrinsically low bandgap and injection barrier.
This study endeavors to tackle this issue by introducing a novel composite insulating film tailored to function as a thermal barrier within LIBs.
