This interactive flow chart provides a visualization of the energy flow through the National Grid, showing real-time electricity generation to meetsthe nation's demand. Dive into the past 24 hours of generation data for each energy source and see how much power is coming from fossil fuels and renewables.
Click on the 'Show Demand' button to togggle the demand chart. Data updates every 30 mins. You can also view and search historical data going back to 2009. Live and historical GB National Grid electricity data, showing generation, demand and carbon emissions and UK generation sites mapping with API subscription service.
In addition to new wind records, on 20 April we achieved the highest ever solar generation record at 10.971GW. Overall, zero carbon sources outperformed traditional fossil fuel generation in 2023 by providing 51% of the electricity used this year, compared to 32% from gas and 1% from coal stations.
The Great Grid Upgrade is the largest overhaul of the grid in generations and will make sure everyone in England and Wales has access to clean, secure energy. Do solar panels cause issues with glint and glare?
Data is provided by Elexon, with embedded wind and PV data coming from National Grid and the University of Sheffield PV_Live team
The UK currently has approximately 28GW total installed wind capacity (of which around 14GW is offshore generation). On the live dashboard Elexon's data is combined with NG ESO data for (estimated) embedded wind generation to give the total wind figure. On the historical dashboard NG ESO data is used which includes embedded wind figures.
