These methodologies solve the problem of optimal operation of battery storage systems in standalone and grid-connected DC MGs by controlling the charging and discharging actions of the batteries in the network, under a scenario of distributed generation by solar panels that operate at their maximum power point.
This system, referred to as the PV-integrated battery energy storage system—dc series (PVBESS-DCS), simplifies integration and enhances power density by leveraging the inherent voltage-source characteristics of batteries and adopting the concept of partial power processing.
Thus, the system can perform PV maximum power point tracking and curtailment control while charging and discharging BES and connected to a regulated dc bus. Additionally, we present a single-stage multiport partial power processing dc–dc converter designed for the proposed PVBESS-DCS. It utilizes a triple active bridge dc–dc converter topology.
The problem of optimal operation of batteries in electrical networks requires a continuous codification that can be used to establish the power to be supplied or stored by the batteries in each period over the time horizon under analysis.
In the grid-connected DC MG, the energy purchasing cost is associated with the grid energy cost fixed by EPM (i.e., the grid operator in this region), and the CO 2 emissions coefficient depends on the type of power generation technologies used in the grid .
