Korean battery maker SK On and materials producer EcoPro have formed a partnership with China’s GME Resources to produce battery components at a plant in Saemangeum in South Korea’s south-west, while LG Chem has formed a partnership with Zhejiang Huayou Cobalt.
South Korean companies are aiming to light a spark in the electric vehicle (EV) battery industry. Despite a recent slowdown in adoption, the global automobile market has continued its long-term shift toward electric mobility. Interest in components under the hood, such as batteries, has consequently grown in recent years.
The South Korea electric vehicle battery market has been segmented on the basis of battery type, propulsion type, and vehicle type.Based on battery type, the market is segmented into lead acid battery, lithium-ion battery, nickel-metal hydride battery and solid state battery.
The lithium ion cell and battery market in South Korea is expected to register a positive CAGR of 15.3% in terms of revenue during the forecast period 2018-2022. Increased reach of the government's Green Energy Policy and establishment of partnerships by companies with the government for its projects will augment the growth in the market.
