Kempe reported that to test UV ageing in an environmental chamber for doses equivalent to 20 years of exposure is about six months. However, it is required to find a method to test the PV module (Kempe, 2008) in a shorter time period. Researchers are also trying to determine the suitable stress testing conditions for UV ageing of the PV modules.
It reached 4% after 4200 h of accelerated UV ageing for the most discoloured modules, while the UVID of the SHJ solar cells only accounted for a 3% loss. Furthermore, the destruction of UV absorbers is an issue affecting the integrity of the whole PV module and can lead to accelerated delamination, among other critical types of damage.
During the UV accelerated aging test, a set of solar cells was aged under open-circuit conditions and another one was submitted to a voltage of 0.550 V corresponding to the operating voltage of such solar cells at the maximum power point in STC.
