As a new type of flexible regulatory resource with a bidirectional regulation function [ 3, 4 ], energy storage (ES) has attracted more attention in participation in automatic generation control (AGC). It also has become essential to the future frequency regulation auxiliary service market [ 5 ].
Fig. 15 shows graphs of the frequency and the power response of the energy storage system during a frequency event trigger. A 500 MW imbalance was created within the system, resulting in a substantial drop in frequency. The change in frequency was observed by the ESS in the laboratory, which dispatched power according to the EFR response curve.
The frequency regulation can also be achieved in the wind energy system by using the battery storage [ 5] and the battery energy storage can be optimized for controlling the frequency [ 6 ]. The statcom integration with energy storage can give better results [ 7] and this can be achieved in the power system [ 8, 9 ].
