However, solar cell technologies such as chalcogenide, organic, III-V or perovskite solar cells, all have their own niche markets or poten-tials. The aim of this work is to provide an overview and comparison of the different solar cell technologies for the application in integrated photovoltaics.
ABSTRACT: The dominating solar cell technology for PV power plants is the Si based solar cell. However, solar cell technologies such as chalcogenide, organic, III-V or perovskite solar cells, all have their own niche markets or poten-tials.
This paper presents comparative analysis of photovoltaic through a detailed study of constructions, applications and efficiencies of the solar cells of third generation including their future trends and aspects. Among all types of solar cells, till date concentrated solar cells have shown maximum efficiency of 38.9%. 1. Introduction
Table 1 shows a general overview of the different so-lar cell technologies. While technologies such as c-Si, chalcogenide and III-V are already well established and have demonstrated reliability in the field, newer technol-ogies such as perovskites and perovskite tandems are not yet in the market and long term experience is limited.
These primitive solar cells initially had the efficiency of about 6% and the same was increased to 20% using single crystal Aluminium Gallium Arsenide (Al x Ga 1-x As) since AlGaAs has larger band gap, ranges between 1.42 and 2.16 eV. AlGaAs solar cells are more resistant to radiation in comparison to the primitive silicon solar cells [ 6 ].
The final new result in Table 2 is an improvement to 26.7% efficiency for a very small area of 0.05-cm 2 Pb-halide perovskite solar cell fabricated by the University of Science and Technology China (USTC) 41 and measured by NPVM.
