Clause 5.4.12.3.1 Requirements Each lithium ion battery shall be provided with a battery management safety system either integrated into a battery pack or as a separate component. All lithium ion batteries shall comply with AS IEC 62619.
This Guide has been developed to facilitate the effective installation and operation of lithium batteries.
These include performance and durability requirements for industrial batteries, electric vehicle (EV) batteries, and light means of transport (LMT) batteries; safety standards for stationary battery energy storage systems (SBESS); and information requirements on SOH and expected lifetime.
All lithium ion batteries shall comply with AS IEC 62619. The battery management safety system is designed to protect the lithium ion battery from potentially damaging situations. The BMPRO batteries referenced in section 9 of this document comply to IEC62619 and therefore can be installed in compliance with AS/NZS3001.2:2022. CELL VS BATTERY
Performance and Durability Requirements (Article 10) Article 10 of the regulation mandates that from 18 August 2024, rechargeable industrial batteries with a capacity exceeding 2 kWh, LMT batteries, and EV batteries must be accompanied by detailed technical documentation.
2.2 A key hazard of lithium-ion battery installation is that a single cell defect may cascade through a module, and an entire battery system, quickly turning into a thermal runaway event and a full fire incident. Therefore, battery system design should be considered at cellular and module levels.
