In the long term, the capability of wind and solar to contribute to the national power sector will be influenced by a number of other factors specific to China, such as the dominance of coal generation in the power sector, long transmission distances of wind and solar energy, and expense of natural gas generation for variable load balancing.
The wind turbine and PV power generation array are connected to the electric energy output limiter. The limiter is mainly to limit the electric energy output to the grid when solar and wind energy are relatively full, prevent exceeding the grid load, and input the excess electric energy to the coal mine PHS.
China’s wind and solar energy capacities have increased considerably over the previous decade, and these energy sources are playing increasingly important roles in China’s power sector. However, because of their variability and intermittency, increasing the supply of wind and solar energy to the electricity grid is a challenge.
The structure of China’s wind sector also has other differences. Unlike solar PV, in which Chinese manufacturers have gained such significant global market share, China’s wind sector is almost entirely domestically focused with very low export volumes. Almost all of the sales of Goldwind— the country’s largest wind turbine maker—are in China.
