This paper presents a photovoltaic control system with mixing-mode chip design. The chip includes the photo sensor, amplifier and digital decision core, and driver circuits. The photo-sensor is implemented with the p+/n− well diodes to generate the photo current with the array of diodes.
In both cases the solar panel charges the battery via on chip diodes that prevent the battery back feeding the solar panel in hours of darkness. In neither circuit can the 1.2 volt battery voltage alone turn on the LED light because these LED lights need forward voltages of between 1.8 and 3.0 volts to turn them on.
However, the photo sensor, digital control and driver are rarely integrated with a single MOS chip for lighting control. In this paper, the digital control and the analog sensor are integrated for LED streetlight-control by mixing-mode chip design. The design includes the sensing circuits, analog amplifier, digital control and power driver.
The chip is successfully implemented with the integration of photosensor, operational amplifier, digital control and LED driver, for the lighting control system. To meet various environments, the sensitivity for photo detection can be adjusted with I/O control by users. The chip only employs about 500 of MOS and diodes.
This means that the DC power from the solar panel is converted directly to a rectified AC signal. This con-version is done by an interleaved flyback converter. A Full-Bridge (unfolding) converter, switched at 2x line frequency, controls the direction of power flow to the grid.
The job of the chip and the external inductor are to provide a voltage that will turn on the LED (S). The oscillator on the chip is switched on and remains on during darkness hours when the solar cell voltage is low. When on it rapidly opens and closes a switch that connects one side of the coil inductor to ground.
