Rombat is to install a new lead battery production line at its plant in Romania in a €10 million ($10.6 million) investment.
There are no details yet on the type of battery cells to be built in Romania. If Dacia is to be supplied, the cells will be very cheap, as the carmaker had recently repeatedly emphasised that it wanted to offer not the best, but the cheapest electric car.
Rombat said it will also invest in an oxygen production facility at Copșa Mică. Last year, Rombat said it intended to also produce lithium ion batteries intended for customers developing photovoltaic parks or domestic users interested in installing home solar energy systems.

Belgian company Avesta Battery and Energy Engineering (ABEE) is building a battery cell factory in Romania that will mainly supply cells for the automotive industry. ABEE is investing 1.4 billion euros in the cell factory called Romvolt, which will be located in Galați in eastern Romania.
The cells will be delivered to Rombat’s partner that produces car batteries, Prime Motors, where Rombat is a minority shareholder. Designing batteries for electric cars is a challenge that allows Rombat to keep up with technological developments worldwide and take advantage of new market opportunities, explained Ioanes.
