GE’s Medium Voltage Metal Enclosed Capacitor and Harmonic Filter Banks are designed for industrial, commercial, and utility power systems requiring medium voltage automatic power factor correction.
These capacitors are available in ratings up to 150kV and can be connected at the primary side of the transformer. This means smaller currents need to be compensated for the same amount of reactive power. Capacitors connected to medium voltage operate on the same principles as low voltage capacitors.
Capacitors connected to medium voltage are often applied atcentral reactive power compensation. This is an appropriate solution if large numbers of loads, or dispersed loads, are present at the plant. Furthermore, medium voltage compensation is available for higher reactive power compensation than is the case for low voltage.
The Medium Voltage Capacitor Bank Control System shall be listed under UL 508A for Industrial Control Panels. UL class CC 600 volt current limiting fuses shall be provided to protect the control circuit. All Current transformer circuits shall be wired with a minimum of 10 gauge copper wire.
HTVQ series medium-voltage capacitor banks are designed for reactive compensation in medium voltage networks. The HTVQ series combines primary components, and secondary control and protection within a compact modular enclosure.
NEMA 12 or 4X (stainless steel) construction can be provided as an option. Automatic banks can be shipped with a properly sized medium voltage or low voltage current transformer. An integral roll-out vacuum circuit breaker can be supplied for disconnecting the capacitor bank from the power system.
